As God showed his glory to Moses, he proclaimed: "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin" (Ex. 34:6). The word translated "love" is the Hebrew hesed, emphasizing the God's loyalty and love. Later, Moses reminded this to a new generation of Israelites: "If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the LORD your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your forefathers. He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers" (Dt. 7:12).
